Illinois Insights – October 2020 Edition

The October 2020 Edition of ILEPI’s newsletter, Illinois Insights, has been released.

The Illinois Economic Policy Institute (ILEPI) has released the October 2020 Edition of our quarterly newsletter, Illinois Insights. This edition focuses on a new report by the Midwest Economic Policy Institute (MEPI), which is an associated organization of ILEPI, on the impacts of repealing Wisconsin’s prevailing wage law. Repeal of Wisconsin’s state prevailing wage law has failed to produce any of the cost savings that proponents promised, and has instead resulted in lower wages for workers, less overall bid competition, and more tax dollars being exported out-of-state. As always, we’ve updated Illinois’ economic indicators. Illinois lost over 412,000 jobs from September 2019 to September 2020, but the unemployment rate has declined to 10.2% from 17.2% in April 2020. While there is hope these numbers continue to improve, the virus is around to stay and some counties across Illinois are closing indoor restaurants as cases have been on the rise throughout the Midwest. Please stay safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing!

Be sure to check out the October 2020 Edition for all of this and more! Also, please subscribe to Illinois Insights by entering your email address here, like the Illinois Economic Policy Institute on Facebook, and follow the Illinois Economic Policy Institute on Twitter!
