The September 2021 Edition of ILEPI’s newsletter, Illinois Insights, has been released.
This edition mainly focuses on the construction industry and the labor movement. Some key highlights from the newsletter include:
- “Federal-aid swap” Programs bypass federal construction standards and fail to save any money on construction projects.
- Minnesota’s unionized construction industry produces higher wages, greater equality, safer worksites, and less reliance on social assistance while training more than 90% of the state’s skilled trade apprentices.
- The Workers’ Rights Amendment is headed to the ballot in Illinois. The Constitutional Amendment would essentially ban “right-to-work” in Illinois. Previous research finds that “right-to-work” laws underperform Illinois on a range of core economic metrics—including wages, income growth, workforce productivity, poverty, and workplace safety.
- ILEPI has hired TWO new employees: Andrew Wilson and Grace Dunn! Please help us in welcoming them to the ILEPI Team!
